Mental Health Week NSW Launch

Launch of Mental Health Week NSW: Wednesday 7th October 2009, Martin Place 11am – 3pm.
The launch was officially opened by the Hon Barbara Perry MP, Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Mental Health)
Highlights of the event included -
- Radio and TV personality Julie McCrossin as MC
- Performances from the Sydney Street Choir and local dancers from ‘Studio 101’
- A very special interactive drum circle with 100 drums in the audience
- Presentation of the Mental Health Matters Awards by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW, to 14 award winners sharing $10,000 in total prize money
- A Living Library featuring 8 incredible living books sharing their unique stories of how they built their resilience and overcame challenges in their lives. Titles include ‘Lesbian Clergywoman’ and ‘Person living with Disassociative Identity Disorder’
- Free massages and showbags.
- Information about mental health and wellbeing from stall holders including the Mental Health Information Service, beyondblue, Transcultural Mental Health Centre, ARAFMI NSW, and NSW Consumer Advisory Group
- Information about how to “Sign up, Link in, Get Involved” from stall holders including City of Sydney Library, Sydney Community College, Red Cross Blood Service, the Big Issue, goodcompany, Horder Fitness, Australian Employer’s Network on Disability and The Workplace Health Promotion Network
- Artist workshop and book signing with MHA Ambassador Greg Wilson
- A community art exhibition
- A sausage sizzle from 12–2pm
- Inspiring speeches from artist/sculptor Greg Wilson (MHA ambassador) and sports broadcaster Craig Hamilton (beyondblue ambassador)
