GroupsNet is... a network for support group leaders.

Group leaders may come from a range of health related issues including: mental health, anxiety, depression, cancer, bereavement, weight loss etc.

Why GroupsNet?

The Mental Health Association NSW and Mental Health Carers ARAFMI NSW have been coordinating support groups since 1975. There is a clear need to support the leaders of support groups; in order to achieve better outcomes and improved recovery for many people attending the groups.

In August 2011, MHA and ARAFMI joined together to establish a mental health support group network. The network aims to assist the leaders of support groups in the field of mental health and wellbeing.

What does the network do?

The network delivers education to current or future support group leaders and provides information on: liability, insurance, risk management, child protection, mental health disorders, loss and grief and other related issues.

Network members also benefit from the provision of resources, a monthly e-newsletter, and new opportunities to connect and share expereinces with other support group leaders.

Our Advisory Committee is comprised of people who are experienced in running support groups. We aim to be of assistance to all people in NSW and are pleased to have on board Vicki Katsifis from the Transcultural Mental Health Centre representing people from non english speaking backgrounds, and Les Bursill OAM, representing indigenous Australians.
