The Mental Health Association currently has one branch at Gilgandra, NSW.
We encourage community members to set up branches within their community. Activities undertaken could include information stalls, public talks, mental health promotion, networking amongst organisations etc.
We can provide support in the form of:
- Advocacy
- Establishment and back office support
- Teleconference hookup at Board meetings
- Special project funding
Benefits of having a branch include:
- Provide a platform to explore what it means to be ‘mentally healthy’
- Provide an opportunity for improved communication between health professionals and the community
- Can play a lobbying role to local politicians and other organisations
- Opportunities for people to share personal stories and experiences
- Decreasing stigma and discrimination by talking publicly about mental illness and wellness
All of these benefits result in increased awareness of mental ill-health, and emotional and social wellbeing.
